15. International Conference: “A New Social Contract for MENA Countries: Experiences from Development and Social Policies”, German Development Institute (DIE), Bonn, 5-6 December 2016
The conference is part of the DIE’s new research and policy advice project on “Stability and development in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA)”, which is meant to identify the core ingredients that a new social contract in MENA countries would have. This work seeks to demonstrate the importance of the fighting identities as alternate explaining factors to the classic State-centrism that takes over the studies on the region. We are proposing the inclusion of the complete scope of heterogeneity to include elements that transform ethnic, religious, cultural and linguistic diversity of the Middle East and the Caucasus into an intellectual necessity for comprehensively studying both regions.
